We are always looking for energetic, reliable people to fill our volunteer positions. Being a volunteer allows you to get involved in roller derby and it comes with many perks.

Volunteers arrive early to help set up the track, tables, banners, etc., and stay after the bout to help clean up and take down tables, banners, etc.

Volunteers

There are so many volunteer positions that we can’t possibly list them all. Below are some of the most crucial.

  • Face Painting - table set up outside for kids to get their face painted, some artistic talent needed.
  • Tickets - handle money and give correct change, count how many people come through the door, tear tickets, and hand out programs
  • Announcer – uses a microphone to announce the activities before, during, and immediately following the bout
  • Merch Table - handle money and give correct change, tally merchandise sold, keep merchandise organized
  • Security- keep fans from sitting behind the teams, keep kids from sitting on the caution tape, and keep open drinks off the skate floor
  • EMTs - We currently have these positions filled. However, we give discounts at the door for ALL medical personnel.
  • Anthem Singer – sings the National Anthem before each bout
  • Jeer Leaders – keeps the crowd entertained before the bout, during time-outs, and at halftime

Non-skating Officials (NSOs)

NSOs are a special type of volunteer. These positions require a little more dedication on your part. Being an NSO allows you become part of the game by tracking the score, time, penalties, etc. It is very important that you understand how roller derby is played in order to help conduct a bout. We are more than happy to teach anyone who shows an interest in these positions. See the list of NSO positions below.

  • Penalty Box- work a stopwatch and direct the derby girls in box when they can get up and get back on the track
  • Penalty Trackers
    • Inside – communicates with the referees to mark the penalties for players, keeps watch for outside penalty trackers, and writes on dry erase board when a player has three minor penalties

    • Outside - communicates with the referees to write player penalties on a dry erase board and holds the board up for the inside penalty tracker to document it on the penalty tracking sheet
Time Keeper- blows whistle for the start of the Jam and Jammers; keeps the two-minute Jam time and 30 seconds between Jams; and keeps time-out time
Jam Score Skaters- skates around the outside of the track holding the score from the previous jam *

*This position requires the purchase of USARS insurance and skating gear.
