28 Jams Later
This was a great game for both teams! The competition was
heavy from the first whistle and there was many a jam that
kept the audience on their feet.
A clear advantage was made by Rogue in the first period,
but the Sirens were quick to pick up the pace
and edge their way closer to the lead. It became very
intense as the score remained within a three point
difference for the last minutes of the game.
Though this is a loss for the Sirens, it attests to the fact
that this new team has come a long way in their first
bouting season and the time since they last faced Rogue on
the track. (see the My Bloody Valentine below)
Thanks to all the fans that came out to see the Sirens last
home game for the season, and to all the new fans that saw
their first derby game.
Final Score: 77-80

Hard Knox in April
Final Score: 115-99!
Excerpts from Metro Spirit by Jason Craig
Packed into vans and SUVs, the team took off Friday night and Saturday morning on the 5-hour drive over the Smokey Mountains into enemy territory. This was the farthest the Sirens have played and for some, the longest amount of time they have spent with one another out side of derby.
The team assembled on Saturday afternoon under the Sun Sphere at the sight of the 1982 World’s Fair and the 2009 dog groomer’s championships to prepare for the battle ahead. They played in the first bout of a double header and they came out swinging. The surface was polished concrete mopped with sugar water, just sticky enough to keep the skaters from sliding into the crowd. The Sirens came out dominant of the collage of Knoxville players that included a mix of A team and B team skaters as well as some borrowed skaters from surrounding teams. The Sirens went 13 minutes before they allowed a single point. But the Knoxville Brawlers rallied and capitalized on some Sirens penalties and inconsistent pack speeds and by the end of the first half, were within 4 points of the lead.
The Sirens once again came out of the half time with a fire in their eyes. Despite getting some avoidable penalties, the Sirens defense did an excellent job of holding off the hard-hitting Brawlers.
“The bout was a whirlwind of recycling, good defense on Knoxville’s part and some pretty good hitting even though a couple of those girls were hard to take down,” said rookie Jammer Elle e Deville, “in the end, an excellent display of team work and point scoring.”
The bout literally came down to the last 2 jams which may have been the best ever for the Sirens. In the final minutes Jammer Fuka Saru who had been in penalty trouble most of the bout, was flawless in her defensive jamming, preventing her opponent from scoring while staying out of the penalty box.
The final jam was on the shoulders of Smackiavelli, in for the Sirens to hold off Knoxville for the final minute. The suspense was building but was quickly cut short as a Brawler penalty would end their hopes of making a come back and the Sirens (now 3-2) won with a score of 115-99.

Women of Mass Destruction
Final Score: 91-64
Re-cap from Metro Spirit by Jason Craig
Last night Augusta’s Roller Derby team, the Soul City Sirens (2-2) traveled to Charleston to round out their home-and-away series with the Low Country High Rollers (0-2). The Sirens handily defeated the High Rollers earlier this month in a well-attended bout at Red Wing on Washington road. That would not be the case this time.
Short some key players, the Sirens skated without a full roster and the High Rollers were not going to make the same mistakes twice. This was their first home bout ever and they were trying to make Charleston history. The High Rollers came out to rafter shaking roars from the crowd of over 1,100 that had packed into the Omar temple. The High Rollers were set to make an impression on their fans, which had never experienced Derby before, and leave as many impressions as they could on the traveling Sirens.
The bout began with the excited High Rollers coming out to a quick lead while the Sirens slipped and slid on the tile surface of the temple floor. It took about 18 minutes into the first period before Jule C. Blood and company started to get into a rhythm and start to look like they were having a good time. But that momentum would quickly stop and the period ended with the Sirens trailing by 5 points, a stark contrast to their blow out victory just two weeks prior. There was no doubt that the High Rollers were a different team this time. They were a prepared team.
After an eye-opening first period and a talk from Coaches Brett and Scott, the visibly shaken Sirens came out of the locker room with a new respect and a new attitude. Led by Jammer Smackiavelli and veteran pivot Ethyl Agitate the Sirens went to work on the High Rollers chipping away their lead and slowly but surely taking over the score to the dissatisfaction of the hostile home crowd and the pleasure of the hundred or so Augusta fans in attendance.
Chachi O’nasty showed no mercy in beating down the opposition but the Rollers answered with a lot of hard hitting of their own. The High Rollers never let the score slip too far out of reach but could never gain the lead back in a battle to the very end.
As the final buzzer went off the Sirens were victorious, posting a final score of 91-64 in their second victory in a row. The new fans in Charleston will definitely have something to talk about around the water cooler this morning and they absolutely have something to be proud of in their Low Country High Rollers.

March Mayhem!
Final Score: 187-74
Early on it was clear that the Sirens had pulled together much more as a team, but all were waiting to see how the Highrollers were going to take the offensive battle. They threw the punches they could but were no match for the rough and tough team the Sirens had become.
This is only the first meeting of these two teams this month, the next bout is to commence on the 22nd of March. Augusta had a chance to watch their home team destroy the competition, now it's up to the Highrollers to push back on their own turf.
